Last week to register for classes at OJC

Last week to register for classes at OJC

Fall Semester begins August 20

The Otero Junior College campus is buzzing with activity this week as students begin arriving on campus to purchase books and make final arrangements for class schedules. Registration for classes will continue through this week at the Student Services Center, located at 2001 San Juan Ave., with classes beginning on Monday, August 20.

According to Jeff Paolucci, vice president of Student Services, there is still time to enroll.

“We are coming down to the wire, but there is still room in most of our academic courses and career and technical education programs for new students,” said Paolucci. “We are a one-stop-shop in Student Services, so if students come in this week, we will personally help them enroll in the college, chart out a course of study, get registered and start the financial aid process,” he said. “If students have already registered for classes and need to make schedule changes; we can also help them with that.”

Students who are enrolled, or plan to enroll in any of the OJC Hybrid courses, should plan to be present at the first class meeting. The first class serves as the course orientation as well as an opportunity for the students and instructors to meet face-to-face and have their questions answered about the Learning Management System that will be used to deliver a portion of the course materials and provide communication.

Registration for Fall Semester will continue through the first week of classes; the week of August 20. The Student Services Center is open this week, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Student Services Center will also be open to assist students on Saturday, August 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday, August 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The OJC Bookstore will be open Monday through Friday of this week, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center. To accommodate new students coming to campus over the weekend, the Bookstore will be open on Saturday, August 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, August 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students who are moving into the dormitories on August 18 and 19 are invited, along with their families, to a lunch at the Rattlers Den Food Court on August 18 and 19 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, August 19, many of the La Junta Chamber of Commerce merchants will have booths set up in the Student Center for students and their families to see what businesses and services are available to them in the area.

Other activities planned to welcome students to campus include an All Student and All Staff BBQ and Swim Party at the La Junta Swimming Pool on August 23; student will be able to enjoy a free bowling night at Eagle Lanes on August 29, followed by an All Student and All Staff Ice Cream Social on August 30 at the OJC Rattler Den Food Court. On September 5 all students are welcome to attend a free movie night at the Fox Theatre; a current student id will be required for admittance.
