Otero Junior College will be offering a Youth Sports Performance Camp for grades 6 through 12 on August 6 and August 7. The camp will be held at the OJC Fitness Center under the direction of Kurt Long, OJC Fitness Center Director.
The Sports Performance Camp will feature Olympic certified coaches Dustin Holman and Cory Sullivan, as guest presenters. The two coaches will focus on helping young athletes with speed, quickness, upper/lower body strength and power development. Campers will receive hands-on instruction with lifting and exercise techniques in addition to training presentations and principles of speed and agility in sport.
“The camp will stress safety and the application of various training principles to be applied to all sports performances,” said Kurt Long, director of the OJC Fitness Center. “Our two guest trainers have many years of experience as performance coaches and we’re honored to have their expertise available to the youth of our area,” he said.
Guest presenters include: Cory Sullivan, M.S., the co-founder of CHAOS Fitness. He is a USA Weightlifting and Sports Performance Coach with a master’s degree in exercise physiology. Sullivan currently competes in weightlifting competitions. The second presenter is Dustin Holman, co-founder of CHAOS Fitness. Holman is also a certified sports performance coach who is currently the assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Adams State University.
The cost of the Youth Sports Performance Camp is $40 if pre-registered prior to the start of the camp on August 6. Registration on the day camp starts is $50. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 6. The camp will begin at 11:30 a.m. through 3 p.m. on August 6. On Tuesday, August 7, the camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
