A detour will be in place for eastbound traffic only on Vermijo between Tejon Street and Nevada Avenue from Friday afternoon July 20th through Sunday July 22nd to facilitate removal of obsolete rooftop heating and air conditioning units from the Robert L. Russell Professional Building at 105 East Vermijo.
The old rooftop units are no longer needed because the Russell Professional Building, which houses the offices of the Fourth Judicial District Attorney and the El Paso County Public Trustee, has recently been connected to the County’s highly efficient Central Utility Plant (CUP). This is one of many countywide energy efficiency improvements completed in conjunction with the County’s 2010 Strategic Moves Initiative.
Deputy County Administrator Monnie Gore, who oversees the maintenance and operations of county buildings says, “The rooftop units being removed from Robert L. Russell Professional Building are well beyond their useful life expectancy. By connecting this building to the Central Utilities Plant there will be significant savings in energy costs for many years to come but there will also be immediate savings from reduced maintenance, repair and replacement costs associated with the old rooftop units.”
Traffic flow is scheduled to return to normal in time for start of the work week Monday morning.
