On Saturday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m., First Christian Church at Cascade & Platte is presenting another program in its “Hot Summer Nights – Music on the Labyrinth” series. The featured performers are the Springs Band, a quintet of keyboard, guitar, bass, sax/woodwinds and percussion. They’ll play an assortment of rock ‘n’ roll, country, big band, Latin, swing, and 30s -70s pop. The audience will be invited to dance to the music on the labyrinth, so bring your dancing shoes! The program will be held outdoors on the south side of the church, so bring a blanket or chairs. (The program will be moved indoors for inclement weather.) A free will offering will be taken.
Members of The Springs Band are: Phil Puterbaugh – bass guitar and vocalist, former member of the NORAD band as a Navy musician; Gary Kraud – woodwinds and vocal, a former Air Force member of the NORAD band, who has also toured with some of the great big jazz bands; Joe Musselwhite – guitar and vocals, served a full Air Force career as both an airplane crew chief, as bandsman with the Air Force Academy Band as leader and guitar player with Wild Blue Country, and has played at the Broadmoor Tavern; Bobby McGuffin – drums, served a full career in the Army both as a bandsman and with helicopters, and has played the Broadmoor Tavern; EricSaffell – keyboards, served a full 20-year career with the Air Force Academy Band as a tuba player and keyboards, as well as with the AFA Rock Band Blue Steel, and has also played the Broadmoor Tavern as well as the Garden of the Gods Club.
