The Colorado Springs Sky Sox are proud to announce that Saturday, July 28 will now be a special community salute to the Colorado Springs Police and Fire Departments and will recognize and celebrate all the brave men and women who willingly fight everyday to keep our community safe and secure. As part of the Sky Sox game day activities, the team has commissioned Wilson Sporting Goods to create one of the most unique custom made jerseys the team has ever worn. These game worn jerseys will be auctioned off during and after the game with 100% of the proceeds benefitting local fire and police designated charities. The Colorado Springs Fire Protective Association will receive 50% of the proceeds and the other 50% will support the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs.
The jersey design is meant to pay tribute to the heroic efforts of our local police and fire departments in fighting the Waldo Canyon Fire Event. The body of the jersey will have a background of fire with a silhouette of both a police and fire personnel on the lower front just below the Sky Sox logo. The back of the jersey will have the player number as well as the Fire Department emblem and the quote “It’s not something you do, it’s something you are.” Both organizations logos will also be emblazoned with a patch located on the blue sleeves of the jersey.
During the game, there will be a special silent auction of all the players’ jerseys which will be held in the concourse at the main entrance of the stadium. Following the game, a live auction will be held on the Sky Sox dugout that will feature the starting nine Sky Sox players’ jerseys. All jerseys will be autographed by the player that wore them and will be accompanied with a certificate of authenticity.
“Our players, fans and the entire Sky Sox family are honored to pay tribute to our local heroes for not only the heroics they showed during the Waldo Canyon Fire but also for what they do day-in and day-out to make Colorado Springs one of the best communities in America”, said Sky Sox President & General Manager Tony Ensor. “Although there is no way to truly repay them for all that they do for our community we hope that this day of tribute will create a lasting memory for these brave men, women and their families”.
Before the start of the night’s 6:05 PM game against the Fresno Grizzlies, the Sky Sox will have a pre-game ceremony on the field starting at 5:25 PM with Fire Chief Rich Brown, Police Chief Pete Carey and Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach on hand for recognition and a first pitch. There will also be a special moment of tribute from the Sky Sox and fans to all of our local heroes and their families in attendance. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to take part in the tribute and pre-game presentations with gates opening at 5:00 PM.
The Sky Sox are also proud to provide members of both the Police and Fire Departments complimentary reserve tickets to the game so that these brave members and their families can come out to the game to be recognized in the stands and enjoy a relaxing Sky Sox game as our special guest. The day will also include a fantastic giveaway as the first 2,000 fans through the gate will receive a Limited Edition Carlos Gonzalez Bobblehead as they enter the gates at 5:00 PM.
