In an effort to help new students prepare for their first semester of college, Otero Junior College will be hosting a new student orientation on July 10 and July 13 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in McBride Hall, room 137. The event provides an orientation for new students to Otero Junior College and to the many services available at the college. Students can choose to attend either of the two days for their orientation. Students do not need to attend both days.
Included in each orientation session will be information on the college experience that includes dormitory life, the dining hall, clubs and organizations, programs of study and tips for college and academic success. Also included will be presentations on financial aid, academic advising and a tour of the college.
According to Brad Smith, Associate Vice President for Student Services, attending an orientation session is important for both the new student and their parents.
“When a student and their parents attend an orientation session, it provides an opportunity to learn more about OJC, and to have many of their questions answered. We want all students to be successful here at Otero. We also want the parents to leave feeling confident that their child will be well supported at OJC throughout their stay. This is just one of the many positive events we offer to better ensure that success,” explained Smith.
Lunch will be provided for all students, parents and guests that attend. All students who plan to attend are asked to RSVP for a lunch count to the OJC Student Services Center at 719-384-6948. Those that plan on attending may also RSVP by emailing email@example.com or by accessing OJC’s website at www.ojc.edu and clicking on the Student Orientation link that is located on the home page.
