Officer Dies in the Line of Duty

This afternoon, at 2:32 pm, while conducting traffic enforcement near Austin Bluffs Parkway and Silver Drive, Officer Matthew Tyner was involved in a traffic crash where tragically, he died from his injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Accident Unit responded to the scene to assume investigative responsibility. A representative with the District Attorney’s Office was also on the scene as is protocol relating to fatal accidents. At this time, the investigation remains active.

Prior to joining the Colorado Springs Police Department, Matthew served as an Officer with the Kansas City Police Department for three years.

He became a part of the Colorado Springs Police Department’s family on January 21, 1999, where he served as a Patrol Officer, a Neighborhood Resource Officer and Training Academy Instructor before becoming part of the Specialized Enforcement Division/Motorcycle Unit.

Matthew’s outgoing personality and friendship will be sorely missed by all those who knew him and worked with him.
