Central City Opera Guild Proudly Presents its Annual Girlfriends’ Days at the Opera
July 21 and 31 at the 2012 Central City Opera Festival
On Saturday, July 21st, and Tuesday, July 31st, the Central City Opera Guild presents its annual Girlfriends’ Days at the Opera. With a choice of either a weekday or weekend day, as well as two different offerings including Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, the Guild hopes to accommodate local women’s busy schedules.
“Girlfriends’ Day appeals to music lovers who want to experience a beautiful summer day in Central City with friends, as well as business women who are looking for a unique venue to entertain clients,” says Central City Opera Guild President Anne McGonagle.
On Saturday, July 21st, the day begins with the 2:30 p.m. matinee performance of The Turn of the Screw at the Central City Opera House. Following the opera, girlfriends will enjoy the The Turn of the ScrewFest, which includes ghost stories, mind-reading and intimate performances by Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, and Ballet Nouveau Colorado. Guests may also participate in a paranormal investigation conducted by the Other Side Investigators. Spirits, brew, refreshments and British pub fare will be provided by Dostal Alley Brewpub & Casino, vitaminwater and Popchips. In Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, mystery and apparitions come to the stage in this new production by the Central City Opera. Based upon the novella by Henry James, the chamber opera set in an English country house tells the story of a governess who keeps watch over two children.
On Tuesday, July 31st, Girlfriends’ Day begins with lunch at noon in the Teller House provided by the Kevin Taylor Restaurant Group, followed by the 2:30 p.m. matinee performance of Oklahoma!Tickets for Oklahoma!
