Dr. Jane Fraser is named ASEE Fellow

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) has selected Colorado State University-Pueblo faculty member Dr. Jane Fraser as a Fellow Member in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Society.

Fraser, chair of CSU-Pueblo’s Engineering Department, was chosen as a Fellow based on her contributions to ASEE and to engineering education. She will be honored this week at the 2012 ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition in San Antonio, Texas. The banquet is the culmination of the Society’s Annual Conference and Exposition, held June 10-13 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. For details regarding the conference, visit  http://www.asee.org/conferences-and-events/conferences/annual-conference/2012.

Last year, Fraser was named the inaugural recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Industrial Engineering Division of ASEE for having made significant contributions over an extended period of time to the discipline and the division. Her service to ASEE has included stints as Division, Section, and national officer in the American Society for Engineering Education. In addition, she has been a program evaluator for ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

“This is further recognition of Jane’s deep, longstanding commitment to engineering education and to educating CSU-Pueblo engineering students,” said Interim Provost Dr. Rick Kreminski.

Fraser earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Swarthmore College, and master’s and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of California at Berkeley. She was an industrial engineering professor at Purdue University and Ohio State for a total of 18 years, before moving to Colorado State University-Pueblo in 1998. She has served as chair of the Department of Engineering at CSU-Pueblo for the past 12 years. Her  research areas include decision analysis, probability models, and engineering economy. She has published articles on topics as diverse as probability models to explain legislative behavior, to improve health care decisions, to improve economic decision making as well as improve engineering education.

CSU-Pueblo has the only industrial engineering program in Colorado, offering Bachelor of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering and Engineering (with mechatronics specialization), and a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
