Arts Center announces new visual arts curator

Dussart joined the Arts Center’s visual arts team in September 2012 as an exhibition preparator and became an assistant curator in March 2012. Dussart joins the Arts Center with a strong background in visual arts. She served as Director of Visual Resources at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) for three years and was an assistant to the director of the Smokebrush Gallery and Foundation for the Arts in Colorado Springs. Dussart also volunteered for the Guggenheim Museum in New York and assisted with preparation and installation of temporary exhibits at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. Dussart is currently working on completing her masters in Art History/Museum Studies from City College of New York with an emphasis in contemporary activist art organized around environmental issues.

“Understanding the history of the Arts Center and its significance to Southern Colorado and beyond, it is important for me to build upon that foundation through teamwork and collaboration,” said Dussart. “In the near future, visitors should expect more interactive exhibitions that are integrated with aspects of education and community involvement.”
