(PUEBLO, Colo.—May 22, 2012) Grab your paint brush and put on your dancing shoes – everyone’s invited to the Family Arts Festival on Saturday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. It’s a spectacular day of magic, music, food and outdoor family fun, all designed to spark the creativity and imagination in everyone. The festival serves as the opening event for 40 Fairy Tale Days of Summer in the Buell Children’s Museum, featuring a special guest, activity or art adventure each day at the museum through August 18.
Family Arts Festival is a family event where getting messy is highly encouraged and everyone is invited to let loose their creative genius. Work side by side with artists who inspire you to create masterpieces with GIANT art tools, chalk, clay and paint. Ride the self-propelled Plasma Cars. Learn the ingenious art of Fence Weaving using recycled materials. Visit with strolling fairy tale characters and Sparky the Art Dog. Experience the Recycled Fairy Tales exhibit in the Buell Children’s Museum and celebrate the museum’s birthday by making a clay birthday cake with potters Kate and Shane Jarrett. Join the puppet workshop and make your own puppets, then put on a show. Learn to dance with ribbon wands that you make yourself. Watch the Incredible Mr. E in the Arts Center Theater at 2 p.m., then twist and shout in the Jackson Sculpture Garden during the DJ Family Dance Party from 3-4 p.m. Mimes, storytellers, ice cream, popcorn and a visit from the Brothers Grimm themselves add extra fun and excitement to the day. You’ll say “Wow!” at all you can do!
Family Arts Festival is sponsored by Southern Colorado Clinic/Urgent Care, with support from The Arts Associates and Snikiddy Snacks.
Admission is just $4 for adults, $3 for children and military, and free for Arts Center members. The Mr. E Magic Show is $1 extra. Not a member? Take advantage of the $40 family membership being offered that day only in honor of the Arts Center’s 40thanniversary. All guests at Family Arts Festival are invited to stay for the free public opening reception of the summer exhibits in the Helen T. White Galleries from 4-6 p.m., featuring live music by Fireweed.
